Folders, a place for everything

Every tile under the "Folders" heading is a real place you can step into. Each one has its own conversations, photos, documents and folders waiting inside.

1. Open Qbit and stay on Home.
2. Scroll past the ask box until you see the "Folders" heading.
3. Tap any tile to open that folder’s own page.
4. Tap "Back" at the top left of the folder page to head back to Home.

• Adults start with twelve folders from Qbit: Search, Draft & Write, Health, Travel, Do Research, Homework & Tutoring, Play Games, Parenting, Cooking & Baking, Arts & Crafts, Sports and Entertainment.
• Children get a set chosen for their age instead. Under 13 starts with Storytime, Homework Help, Games, Find It, Arts & Crafts, Write With Me, Sports, Kids Fitness, Family Recipes and Pets.
• It’s all yours to shape: add your own folders, rename these ones, and move them around.

Good to know: Two tiles open something special: "Play Games" opens the Games hub and "Storytime" opens the Storytime landing, instead of a folder page.

Your everyday folders belong up top, and getting them there takes about a second. Press and hold a tile, drag it, let go.

1. On Home, put your finger (or your mouse) on the tile you want to move.
2. Hold still for about a third of a second, until the tile lifts and your phone gives a short buzz.
3. Drag it over the tile you want it to sit before or after.
4. Need to go further? Drag near the top or bottom of the screen and the page scrolls along with you.
5. Let go to drop it in its new spot.

• Your new order is saved to your account, so your phone, your tablet and the web all match.
• It works while "Edit" mode is on too, so you can tidy and reorder in one go.
• The first time you have two or more folders on Home, Qbit shows a one time tip: "Tip: press and hold a folder to move it."
• Scrolling still works as usual. If your finger moves before the tile lifts, the page just scrolls.

Edit mode is your five minute tidy up. Every tile grows a small x for taking it off Home, and a dashed tile appears at the end for bringing folders back.

1. On Home, tap "Edit" at the right of the "Folders" heading.
2. Tap the small x on any tile you want off your Home page.
3. Tap the dashed "Add folder" tile at the end of the grid to bring folders back.
4. Tap "Done" (the same button, now relabelled) to leave Edit mode.

• Press and hold still works in Edit mode, so you can remove and reorder in the same pass.
• In Edit mode only the x responds, so a stray tap on a tile won’t send you anywhere.

Good to know: The x just takes a tile off your Home page, and everything stays put. Qbit’s folders are waiting in the picker, and your own keep every document and photo, ready to come back too.

Qbit’s folders are a great start, and the ones you make yourself are where it gets good: Soccer Season, Kitchen Remodel, Mum’s Recipes. Making one takes under a minute, and it lands on your Home page right away.

1. On Home, tap "+ Add folder", the pill with the plus just left of "Edit".
2. Type a name, up to 60 characters.
3. Tap "Add emoji" to pick a picture for it, or "Add a photo" to use one of your own.
4. Tap "Add background color" if you’d like to change its tint.
5. If you like, write a short description so Qbit knows what belongs in it.
6. Tap "Save".

• Qbit gives every new folder the next colour in her rotation, so it already looks right before you touch a thing.
• The description does real work. She reads it whenever you ask a question inside the folder.

Good to know: A folder made from Home sits at the top level. For one tucked inside another, make it from that folder’s page.

Took a folder off Home and want it back? It’s right where you left it. The picker lists everything you’ve hidden, and one tap puts it back on the grid.

1. On Home, tap "Edit".
2. Tap the dashed "Add folder" tile at the end of the grid.
3. Tap any folder in the list to put it back on Home, or tap "Create your own folder" at the top to make a new one.
4. The chooser closes and your folder appears at the end of the grid.

• The list holds both kinds: Qbit’s folders you’ve removed and your own folders you’ve hidden.
• If every one of Qbit’s folders is already on your Home page, the list says so, and adults still get "Create your own folder" underneath.

Good to know: A child is offered folders from their own age group plus their own hidden folders, and only those. Storytime is kept for children.

Qbit likes you to always have somewhere to start, so she keeps at least one folder on your Home page. When you go to remove the last one, she offers a swap instead.

1. Try to remove your last remaining Home tile.
2. Read the "That’s your last folder" sheet that appears.
3. Tap "Choose a folder" to open the picker, or "Keep it" if you’ve changed your mind.
4. Pick or create a folder. The original tile comes off once the new one lands.

• The swap is one smooth move, so your Home page is never blank in between.
• This works the same way however you remove a folder: the x in Edit mode, the three dots on a folder page, the Games hub or Storytime.

Set your Home page up once on the sofa and it’s already right on your phone in the car. Your order, removals and hidden folders are saved to your account, not the device.

1. Rearrange or remove folders on one device.
2. Sign in to Qbit on another device.
3. Your Home page comes up in the same order.

• This covers all three: the order of your folders, which ones you’ve taken off Home, and which of your own folders are hidden.

Good to know: A few small preferences stay with each device on purpose: whether the Folders list in the menu is open, which folders you had expanded there, whether a folder page’s Folders section is collapsed, and how big the photo tiles are.

If you had folders from before folder pages existed, Qbit gave them a one time tidy so every one found a good home. Here’s what she did with them.

1. Open Qbit.
2. If anything was tidied, you’ll see a one time note: "Your folders now live on your Home screen."
3. Check your Home page, and the "Folders" list in the menu, to see where everything landed.

• A folder that matched one of Qbit’s own became that folder.
• A folder that clearly belonged under another was nested inside it.
• Everything else became a folder of its own on your Home page.

Good to know: This happened once per account, all by itself, for adults only. A child’s older folders stay exactly where they were, so each one stays inside their own age group’s folders.

Sometimes you want the whole picture at once. The "Folders" list in the menu shows everything you have, right down to the conversations inside each folder.

1. Tap the hamburger button at the top left, the one with three lines.
2. Tap "Folders" to unfold the list.
3. Tap the chevron beside a folder to see what’s inside it: its folders first, then its last five conversations.
4. Tap a folder row to open its page, or a conversation row to pick that conversation back up.
5. Tap "See all" under a folder’s conversations to open Recents filtered to that folder.
6. Tap "All" at the right of the "Folders" heading to jump back to your Home page.

• Your Home folders come first, in your Home order, then any of your own folders you’ve taken off Home, then older ones.
• That device remembers whether the list is open and which folders you had expanded.

Good to know: The list starts closed, which keeps Settings and My Kids close at hand. Conversations you haven’t filed live in the Recents section just below it.

Open any folder and you get a whole page just for it: its picture and name, a line about what it’s for, the folders inside it, and three tabs holding its conversations, photos and documents. There’s an ask box at the bottom too.

1. Tap a folder tile on Home.
2. Read the short line under the name, and tap "more" if there’s a longer explanation.
3. Use the tabs, "Recents", "Photos" and "Documents", to move between what’s filed here.
4. Type a question in the box at the bottom and send it.
5. Tap "Back" at the top left to return to where you came from.

• Anything you ask in that box is answered using the documents filed in this folder, and the conversation is filed right back into it.
• You can reach the same page from the "Folders" list in the menu, or from a folder row in My Documents.

Three tabs, one pane at a time, with a count on each label so you can see at a glance what’s filed here. Recents holds conversations, Photos holds pictures, Documents holds files.

1. Open a folder page.
2. Tap "Recents", "Photos" or "Documents" to switch between them.
3. Check the number in brackets on each tab to see how much is filed in this folder.

• The folders inside this one sit above the tabs, so they’re always in view whichever tab you’re on.
• Every folder page opens on the Recents tab, so that’s where you’ll land each time.

The Recents tab keeps your last six conversations in this folder, newest first, each titled by what you asked. Tap one and the whole thread opens again, ready to keep going.

1. Open a folder page and stay on the "Recents" tab.
2. Tap any conversation row to reopen it.
3. Tap "See all" under the list to open the Recents page filtered to just this folder.

• A conversation you started in a folder inside this one counts here too, so the parent folder shows everything underneath it.

Good to know: "See all" turns up once there are more than six conversations to show.

Every picture filed in this folder lives here, whether you uploaded it or saved it from one of Qbit’s answers. You can add more, change the tile size, and select several at once to move or delete them.

1. Open a folder page and tap the "Photos" tab.
2. Tap "Upload" to add pictures from your photo library.
3. Tap the grid button to cycle the tile size between two, three and four across, or pinch the grid on a touch screen.
4. Tap "See all" to reveal the photos below the first two rows.
5. Tap "Select", tap the pictures you want, then tap "Move" or "Delete" on the bar that appears.
6. Tap "Cancel" to leave Select mode.

• Each device remembers its own tile size, so your tablet can show big tiles while your phone shows small ones.
• The grid shows two rows until you tap "See all", which keeps even a busy folder easy to read.

Good to know: Deleting pictures asks you once and is permanent, so it’s worth a quick look before you tap.

Drop a file into a folder and Qbit can answer questions about it right there. School letters, insurance forms, recipes, a lease. Upload it, then ask away.

1. Open a folder page and tap the "Documents" tab.
2. Tap "Upload" and choose a file. PDFs, Word documents, text, spreadsheets, slides and more all work.
3. Ask your question in the box at the bottom of the folder page.
4. Tap the three dots on any row for its options: view, move, share, download, print and delete.
5. Tap "Show more" at the bottom of a long list, or "See all" in the heading, to reveal the rest right on the page.

• Your file lands in the exact folder you’re standing in, so it’s filed the moment you upload it.
• Open "How your files are protected" under the list to see what happens to anything you upload.

Good to know: Pictures always head to the Photos tab, even when you upload them from here, and even while they’re still uploading.

A folder page shows a comfortable amount and tucks the rest away, so even a busy folder fits on one screen. "See all" unfolds the rest right where you are, on the same page.

1. Open a folder from the "Folders" list in the menu, or from a tile on Home.
2. Tap the "Photos" tab. It shows up to two rows of tiles, with the count on the tab.
3. If there are more, tap "See all" and the remaining tiles unfold right there.
4. Tap the "Documents" tab. It shows ten rows, with "Show more" and a "See all" pill that reveals everything at once.
5. Tap the three dots on any row or tile to see its move, share, download, print and delete buttons.

• "See all" appears only when something’s tucked away, so if it’s missing, you’re already looking at everything.
• The photo limit is two rows rather than a set number of pictures, so a tablet shows more than a phone, and it refits when you turn the screen.

The ask box at the bottom of a folder page is where folders really shine. Qbit answers using the documents filed there, and she saves the conversation straight back into that folder.

1. Open a folder page.
2. Type your question in the box at the bottom and press the arrow, or press Enter.
3. Or, with the box empty, tap the waveform button to talk to her instead. Voice Mode opens already pointed at this folder.

• The conversation turns up in that folder’s Recents afterwards, right where you’d expect it.
• If one of Qbit’s folders has a suggested question, it sits as a chip inside the "more" panel under the description.

Wondering what to ask? Most of Qbit’s folders come with an example question already written. It’s tucked inside the "more" panel, and one tap sends it just as it is.

1. From Home, tap a folder card such as Search, Draft & Write, Health, Travel, Do Research or Homework & Tutoring.
2. Read the one line description under the name, then tap "more" for the fuller explanation.
3. Tap the starter chip inside that panel to send the suggested question, or type your own in the folder’s message box.
4. Qbit answers on the conversation page, with the folder’s name showing so you know where it’s being filed.

• The chip lives on cards that have a longer explanation behind "more", so it’s worth a tap.
• Storytime, for children, has its own landing page with three story starters that shuffle, plus their past stories.

Two handy shortcuts sit just under the ask box on every folder page, in easy thumb reach. They do exactly what the Upload buttons on the tabs do, with no tab switching needed.

2. Tap "Add photos" or "Add files" in the row under the ask box.
3. Pick from your device. Whatever you choose lands in the folder you’re standing in.

• Perfect for mid conversation: add the file, then ask about it without moving an inch.

Good to know: When "Photos & images" is turned off in a child’s settings, "Add photos" steps aside for them, just like the Upload button on the Photos tab.

A folder can hold folders. Health can hold one per person, Travel one per trip. They sit in the "Folders" section above the tabs, each with a count of what’s inside.

2. Look at the "Folders" section above the tabs.
3. Tap a row to open that folder.
4. Or tap the down chevron on a row to peek at what’s nested inside it, shown indented, right on the same page.
5. Tap the three dots on a row to open the Edit folder sheet for that one.
6. Tap the section title to collapse the whole section. Qbit remembers that on this device.

• The count on each row includes everything inside it, so you can see at a glance which folders are getting the most use.

Good to know: Folders nest up to four levels deep. At the deepest level, the add folder button takes a well earned rest.

Standing in Travel and want a folder for Italy? One tap. The New folder sheet opens with the location already set to where you are.

1. Open the folder you want to nest inside.
2. Tap the folder with a plus button beside the "Folders" heading.
3. Give it a name, an emoji or a photo, and a colour.
4. Add a description if you like.
5. Tap "Save". Your new folder appears in the section straight away.

• With the location filled in for you, this is the quickest way to build a tidy structure.

Good to know: The button shows while the Folders section is open, on any folder less than four levels deep.

Stepping into a folder inside a folder keeps you on the same page, just narrowed down. There’s always a line telling you exactly where you are.

1. On a folder page, tap a subfolder row.
2. The heading becomes that folder’s name and picture, and the line under it now reads "In Health", or whatever the folder above it is called.
3. Tap that "In ..." line, or tap "Back" at the top left, to go up one level.
4. Keep tapping "Back" to leave the folder page altogether.

• "Back" means back at every level. It goes up one folder at a time, and when you leave the page you land right where you first opened the folder from.

Had a great conversation you want to keep somewhere sensible? File it. It then shows up on that folder’s page and in its count, right alongside the documents and photos it belongs with.

1. Tap the folder icon in the row of buttons under the conversation.
2. Pick a folder from the menu. Folders inside other folders are shown indented.
3. A short message confirms it: "Added to" and the folder name.

• You can do the same from your Recents list, so tidying up can wait until later.
• Choosing the unfiled option takes a conversation back out again.

Good to know: Filing moves the whole conversation, every question and answer in it, and anything else you say in that thread is filed there too.

Everything you can do to a folder lives behind one button. Tap the three dots beside the folder name and you get three choices, with the big one kept apart at the bottom.

2. Tap the three dot button at the top right, beside the folder name.
3. Choose "Edit folder", "Remove from Home", or "Delete folder".
4. Tap anywhere else, or press Escape, to close the menu without choosing anything.

• "Delete folder" sits below a divider on purpose, well away from the everyday choices.

Good to know: "Remove from Home" shows on a folder’s own top level page while its tile is on your Home page. Inside a subfolder, or on a folder you’ve already hidden, you’ll see the other two.

Changing how a folder looks is one tap away. Tap its picture at the top of the page and the Edit folder sheet opens.

1. Open a folder page.
2. Tap the picture or emoji beside the folder name.
3. Change the name, the picture, the colour or the description.
4. Tap "Save".

• It’s the same sheet the three dot menu’s "Edit folder" opens, just fewer taps away.
• On a keyboard, tab to the picture and press Enter or Space.

Call a folder what your family actually calls it. Your name shows up everywhere the folder appears, including on the folders Qbit made.

• The name follows the folder everywhere: the Home tile, the folder page heading, the Folders list in the menu, and the folder rows in My Documents.
• Renaming one of Qbit’s own folders sticks. Your name wins over hers on every screen, for children as well as adults.

Good to know: Each folder in the same place needs its own name. A name a child types is checked and can send you an alert, and it’s always saved.

When you make a folder from My Documents or from another folder’s page, you get to say where it goes. The Location list shows your whole set of folders, indented so you can see what sits inside what.

1. Open the New folder sheet from My Documents, or from a folder page’s add folder button.
2. Open the "Location" drop down.
3. Pick "Top level", or any folder in the list.
4. Finish the rest of the sheet and tap "Save".

• Folders that are already four levels deep are left off the list, since they’re full to the brim.

Good to know: Location shows up when you’re making a new folder away from Home. Folders made from Home always sit at the top level, and the sheet for editing an existing folder keeps it right where it is.

An emoji makes a folder easy to spot at a glance, and it’s the fastest way to make your Home page feel like yours. Use your own keyboard, or pick from Qbit’s grid of a few hundred.

1. Open the New folder or Edit folder sheet.
2. Tap "Add emoji" in the Icon row.
3. Tap the field and use your keyboard’s emoji key, or tap one from the grid below.
4. To go back to no emoji, tap the plain folder shape at the start of the grid.
5. Tap "Save".

• Qbit keeps the first emoji, so if you paste in three, the first one wins.

Good to know: A folder wears an emoji or a photo, one at a time. Picking an emoji swaps out a photo, and adding a photo swaps out the emoji.

A folder wearing a photo of your dog, or your kitchen mid renovation, is so much easier to spot than a name. You crop it to a square yourself, and Qbit shrinks it down before storing it.

1. Open the New folder or Edit folder sheet.
2. Tap "Add a photo" in the Icon row.
3. Pick a picture from your device.
4. Drag and pinch to frame the square you want, then confirm.
5. Tap "Save".

• A photo covers the background colour, so the colour control tucks itself away while one is set.
• JPG or PNG, up to 12MB.

Good to know: Qbit checks every photo before storing it. If one isn’t a fit, you’ll see "That photo can’t be used here. Try a different one." For a child, the photo option steps aside when "Photos & images" is turned off in their settings, and a rejected photo sends a parent alert.

Colour is the quickest way to group folders by eye. You get a colour wheel, a lightness slider, and a row of the tints your other folders already use, so a new one can match.

1. Open the New folder or Edit folder sheet.
2. Tap "Add background color" in the Icon row.
3. Drag on the wheel to choose a colour, or tap one under "Your colors".
4. Drag the "Lightness" slider to make it paler or deeper.
5. Tap "Save".

• Every new folder already gets the next tint in Qbit’s rotation, so this is for when you have something specific in mind.
• On a laptop, click the wheel and the arrow keys move it, which is easier than dragging.

Good to know: The colour control shows on folders you’ve made that aren’t wearing a photo. Qbit’s own folders keep her own tile design everywhere.

The description is a small box that does two jobs. It reminds you what belongs in the folder, and it tells Qbit what the folder is about when you ask her something inside it.

1. Open the New folder or Edit folder sheet.
2. Type into the "Description" box. You have up to 500 characters.
3. Tap "Save".

• It shows as the second line on the Home tile and under the name on the folder page.
• On one of Qbit’s own folders the box starts filled in with her description, and a line saying so. Edit it or clear it to write your own. It only saves when you actually change something.

Good to know: The first sentence shows on the tile and under the folder name. Anything after that sits behind the "more" link on the folder page.

Removing a folder from Home just clears a little space on your Home page. Everything inside stays exactly where it is, and you can put it back whenever you like.

1. Open the folder’s page and tap the three dots beside its name.
2. Tap "Remove from Home".
3. Read the note. One of Qbit’s folders tells you how to bring it back, and one of your own tells you its documents stay in My Documents.
4. Tap "Remove".

• It’s even quicker from Home: tap "Edit", then tap the x on the tile.
• One of your own folders keeps every document, photo and conversation, and stays in My Documents and in the Folders list in the menu.

Good to know: Removing one of your own folders takes it off Home on all your devices at once.

This is the one that really clears things away. Deleting a folder takes everything inside it along too, so Qbit asks you to type the word DELETE first, just to be sure.

1. Open the folder’s page and tap the three dots beside its name.
2. Tap "Delete folder".
3. Read what will go: the folder, the folders inside it, its documents and its photos.
4. Type DELETE into the box. The button lights up once it matches.
5. Tap "Delete folder" and wait for the confirmation.

• There’s a red "Delete folder" button inside the Edit folder sheet too, if you’re already in there.
• Delete one of Qbit’s folders and its Home tile goes as well. You can bring the folder back, fresh and empty, from "Add folder" later.
• In another language you type that language’s word for delete, and typing DELETE always works too.

Good to know: Your conversations stay in Recents, just without the folder. Children delete folders exactly the same way, with the same typed word.

Play Games opens the Games hub rather than a folder page, so its remove button lives right on the hub. Four taps and you’re done.

• To bring it back, go to Home, tap "Edit", then tap the dashed "Add folder" tile.
• The three dots appear while the Games tile is on your Home page.

Storytime has its own landing page rather than a folder page, so it carries its own remove button, just like the Games hub.

4. Confirm.

• Bring it back the same way as any other folder: Home, then "Edit", then the dashed "Add folder" tile.
• The three dots show while the Storytime tile is on the Home page.

Good to know: Storytime lives on the Home page of children under 13.

Already looking at your files? You can make a folder right there. My Documents shows the same folders and lets you create and edit them on the spot.

1. Tap your picture at the top right, then "My Profile", then "My Documents".
2. Tap a folder row to open that folder’s page.
3. Or, inside a folder, tap "+ Add folder" in the bar at the top to make a new folder inside the one you’re looking at.
4. Or tap the pencil beside the folder’s name in that same bar to change its name, its picture or its colour.

• Same folders, same sheets, just reached from your files instead of your Home page.

Good to know: Some older folders don’t have a page of their own. Tapping one of those filters the document list right where you are.
