Signing in on a new phone, tablet or computer is easy, here’s how to skip the password

Getting Qbit on a new phone, tablet or computer takes about ten seconds and zero typing. Qbit shows you a six digit code and a QR image, and you approve the new device from the one already in your hand.

Steps

1. Open Settings and tap “+ Add another device”.
2. A window appears with a six digit code, a QR code and a countdown.
3. On the other device, scan the QR code or type the six digits.
4. Look back at the device you started on. A prompt names the device that’s waiting, for example “Chrome on Mac”. Tap “Approve”, or “Decline” if you don’t recognize it.
5. The other device finishes signing in on its own.

Tips

• Your approval is the final key, so a code on its own never gets anyone into your account.
• There’s a limit on how many codes you can generate in a stretch. If you hit it, Qbit tells you plainly and you can try again shortly.

Good to know: Each code lasts a short while. The countdown turns urgent in the last minute, and you can generate a fresh one.
